GlutenFreeGlasgow: Stage Door Bar in Ayr

It has been a little while since I posted a restaurant review as part of my #GlutenFreeGlasgow series and I confess that this review is not technically in Glasgow but it is close enough!

The Stage Door Bar in Ayr is part of the Gaiety Theatre and came highly recommended through one of the gluten free facebook groups I am in so yesterday I dragged Mr Sparkles down the M77 to try it out!

The menu was HUGE with so much to choose from! Normally when faced with a gluten free menu you have one or two options to pick from so I was totally overwhelmed with the choices!

At 2 courses for £10 I thought it would be rude to not have a starter so I decided to have the Garlic Baked Mushrooms with Mozzarella and garlic bread on the side.

Oh my days … Words cannot describe how gorgeous this was. A layer of baked mozzarella covered the mushrooms which were nice and chunky just the way I like them. The baked garlic bread was equally as yummy and the perfect accompaniment for dipping in my cheese!

10/10 so far from me! Mr Sparkles had the chicken tempura starter which equally was given a 10/10.

When my main course arrived I was gobsmacked at the portion size! I had ordered the gluten free chicken tempura and was expecting a portion around the same size as the starter version …. oh boy was I wrong!

The tempura was amazing. The batter nice and crispy with lovely chicken breast underneath. Mr Sparkles had a taste and confirmed that there was little difference between his version and my gluten free one.

I really struggled to finish this … I had to leave most of the chips and a few bits of tempura – it was so filling!

We were offered dessert but I had to decline … we were both fit to burst at this point!

I think next time I would skip the starter and have a main and dessert to try out some of their amazing gluten free options. I mean pancakes and waffles and sticky toffee pudding!! All gluten free!

I was super super impressed with Stage Door. The service was impeccable and with a really reasonable priced menu I can’t wait to return.

Stage Door gets a massive 12/10 for me!

This sounds like a great place to go! I bet it’s hard to eat out when you have to be careful of what you are eating. The mushroom starter looks yummy, definitely my kind of dish

That is a good choice menu. The food looks fabulous, and when you have to decline dessert, you know it’s been good.
